Limited Edition Hand-Printed Linocut on Genuine Egyptian Papyrus from Luxor, Egypt.
This original linocut print features a repeating lotus and papyrus motif, which were the symbols of upper and lower Egypt. Papyrus is also the plant that papyrus paper is made from.
I created this design as a connection between ancient Egyptian symbolism (because i am ethnically Egyptian) and the lotus flowers found around the wetlands of Darwin, Northern Territory (where I live).
Each piece is hand printed using traditional linocut techniques onto genuine Egyptian papyrus that I bought in Luxor, Egypt myself and took but to Australia. Because the paper fibres are so distinct (giving the paper its beautiful texture), every print will have slight variations, part of the character of handmade printmaking.
Because the papyrus sheets are limited, this work is produced as a small limited edition of 20 prints.
