Stanley Bridge Linocut Print: Alexandria Coastal Architecture, A4

Alexandria, Egypt is a beautiful city with a massive graeco-roman influence from the ptolemiac kingdom. Unlike Cairo, its a small coastal city brimming with history. In 2001, the Stanley Bridge was built to complement the Montaza Palace which was built in the 1800's. The Stanley bridge is an immediately recognisable landmark to those who know it, and to those who don't, it's a beautiful piece of architecture. I have captured the Stanley Bridge in a linoprint, highlighting its graceful arches, lamp-lined walkway, and rhythmic sea lines. I have also incorporated Alexandrian motifs into the border (boats, the ocean and seagulls on the top; balconies, churches, mosques and Pompey's Pillar on the bottom) for added depth and narrative.
